The ACA or the AHCA: Imperfect Solutions to Increasing Access to Health Care?

The ACA or the AHCA: Imperfect Solutions to Increasing Access to Health Care? The ACA or the AHCA: Imperfect Solutions to Increasing Access to Health Care? This week’s discussion focuses on the federal government’s role in protecting the public’s health using the ACA and current efforts to “repeal and replace” the ACA. Please note that the government’s role in protecting the public’s health did not begin with the ACA. In the late 1800s, Lilian Wald brought health care to the community. And in 1965, Congress passed bills authorizing Medicare and Medicaid. Since 1965, Congress has expanded government-sponsored health care to pregnant women and children.Answer the following question:Compare the current provisions in the ACA with those in the failed first version of the AHCA. Share your opinions about why the AHCA failed in the first attempt at passage.ORDER A PLAGIARISM-FREE PAPER HEREFirst Steps to becoming a Grassroots LobbyistThe current debate on healthcare is about replacing the American Healthcare Act with the so-called American Health Care Act. The bill is branded to be more of a Republican issue than the general citizens of America. Personally, I strongly oppose this bill. As an illustration, the ACA provided for insurance to all American citizens whereas AHCA offers individuals with a refundable tax so that they can purchase insurance for themselves. In my opinion, the stated provision above is unfavorable to low-class citizens. Similarly, the bill restructures the medical program of the country in that each state is given a certain amount yearly (Buchmueller, 2017). I agree that providing each state amounts of money is good; however, the supporting legislators do not see the risk which this provision causes too many people since they will end up losing the insurance coverage that was provided for in ACA.The ACA or the AHCA: Imperfect Solutions to Increasing Access to Health Care? The bill is ironical since it claims that healthcare under its provisions is made affordable yet under this bill, children are benefiting at the expense of the old and the poor. It is true that AHCA is significant since it cuts off taxes, government spending, and few federal regulations; on the contrary, the bill is a violation of conservative beliefs on what is deliberating prosperity and the economy of the United States (Buchmueller, 2017). The supporters of the bill must note that the legislation throws new uncertainties to our economy yet our president assured us of making America great again. Such risks are like the effect on the insurance industry. Additionally, the middle class and the low class are hurt by high premiums which they cannot afford. Therefore, the bill must be declined and be subjected first to critical amendments otherwise it will affect many people. The ACA or the AHCA: Imperfect Solutions to Increasing Access to Health Care?My Congress legislature is affiliated to theopposing side. Not to mention, the House of Representatives has not shown any sign of giving up on the repeal of the Affordable Care Act.The bill guts Medicaid to offer $600 billion tax breaks to the wealthy and high profits corporations. The law makes people with pre-existing health conditions to lose protections (Henry, 2017). My Congress representative feels that the stability of the healthcare system will be in jeopardy. He adds that if the bill succeeds then the number of the uninsured people will hike up.As shown from his arguments, my member of Congress is in strong opposition to AHCA. He is against the repealing of the Affordable Care Act. Just like me, he feels that the bill favors only selected individuals who are high-class citizens as well as large corporations He desires to protect people with pre-existing conditions, those on Medicaid and also those who depend on Affordable Care Act for their wellbeing and health.Deficiently, the proposed amendments as my representative argues will undermine the critical protection of low and middle-class citizens who have pre-existing conditions. Indeed, my representative feels that majority of the people he serves will be at risk losing insurance, and the insurance companies are likely to use their pre-existing conditions to discriminate them. The ACA or the AHCA: Imperfect Solutions to Increasing Access to Health Care?I am indeed in support of the position of my representative in the Congress following three points in his arguments against the AHCA bill. First, my representative has a feeling for the minority, and the low class puts them at high risk of losing the insurance cover thus I commend him for such stand.Secondly, he has proven beyond doubts that he is not self-centered since the bill benefits people like him yet my representative falls under the high-class Americans, yet he cannot allow it to pass. He is a real patriot. Thirdly, I will also cover the point that my representative is so much disappointed by the fact that AHCA snatches away health from millions of American citizens and cuts off Medicaid program (Buchmueller, 2017). He listens to the voice of his people who cries out that their health depends on him voting against AHCA.The ACA or the AHCA: Imperfect Solutions to Increasing Access to Health Care?My nursing experience influenced my advocacy on AHCA in some way. My clinic is often flooded with patients with severe illness although they cannot afford to settle the bills themselves. Such patients usually depend on ACA insurance policy to pay their bills. This experience gave me a strong opposition since more than seventy percent of patients will be unable to cater for their expenses. I find myself on the verge of enormous upheaval in the healthcare system when the patients cannot settle the bill themselves. Also, my caring for the old, the bill should not exist. From my experience with the stated group, the AHCA discriminates the elderly Americans whose age does not qualify for Medicare. As earlier stated, most patients especially the low class and the middle class in our healthcare facility depended on the insurance companies which ACA made it available (Henry, 2017). With the new bill, anyone who develops a disease which is costly to the insurance company, they will be discriminated since the company will not be able to pay for such chronic diseases.Even American Medical Association and American Nurses Association are opposing the bill due to same reasons. The ACA or the AHCA: Imperfect Solutions to Increasing Access to Health Care?  ReferencesBuchmueller, Thomas C., Zachary M.
